Dependable Love

Romans 8:29: For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

1 Corinthians 13:4: Charity (love) suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 8 Charity never faileth: . . .

When I first became saved the Lord taught me that He really does love me and He really does have my best interests at heart. I have also learned that His love for me never stops. I can always depend upon it. When I am singing hymns in church, when I am mischievous, when I am stupid, when I fail and, yes, even when I sin, His love for me continues. Sometimes I wake up and notice that and I am grateful. I know that He deserves love from me that never stops. I am working on that and He is helping me but it won*t be perfected until I get to glory.

When we receive Jesus into our hearts, He wants to make us like Him. He wants to make us dependable (faithful). In addition to learning that God is dependable, I have learned that I cannot depend upon unbelievers. Sadly, there are quite a number of believers that are undependable too. They go to church, they serve the Lord, they study the Bible and they depend upon God, but only sporadically. Being unloving and undependable is a choice they make. The result for them is often that they cannot even depend upon themselves. I see multitudes like that in nursing homes. Blessedly there are also many Christians in those places who are remarkably dependable.

1 John 4:19: We love him, because he first loved us.

I believe that we do no harm to God*s truth if we say that we are dependable because He was first dependable.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon on 1 Timothy 6:17: Who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.

Our Lord Jesus is ever giving, and does not for a solitary instant withdraw His hand. As long as there is a vessel of grace not yet full to the brim, the oil shall not be stayed. He is a sun ever-shining; He is manna always falling round the camp; He is a rock in the desert, ever sending out streams of life from His smitten side; the rain of His grace is always dropping; the river of His bounty is ever-flowing, and the well-spring of His love is constantly overflowing. Daily we pluck His fruit, and daily His branches bend down to our hand with a fresh store of mercy. Who has ever returned from His door unblessed? Who has ever risen from His table unsatisfied, or from His bosom un-emparadised? His mercies are new every morning and fresh every evening. Who can know the number of His benefits, or recount the list of His bounties? Every sand which drops from the glass of time is but the tardy follower of a myriad of mercies. The wings of our hours are covered with the silver of His kindness, and with the yellow gold of His affection. The river of time bears from the mountains of eternity the golden sands of His favour. The countless stars are but as the standard bearers of a more innumerable host of blessings. Who can count the dust of the benefits which He bestows on Jacob, or tell the number of the fourth part of His mercies towards Israel? How shall my soul extol Him who daily loadeth us with benefits, and who crowneth us with loving-kindness? O that my praise could be as ceaseless as His bounty! O miserable tongue, how canst thou be silent? Wake up, I pray thee, lest I call thee no more my glory, but my shame. *Awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake right early.*
